It’s a practical, safe and comfortable family SUV that is will grab attention for all the right reasons and has some true Range Rover credentials that its competition just can’t match. While it might seem to major on style, it’s more than that. The velar is much more than a one-trick pony. There is also a new D300 diesel mild-hybrid and a D200 that was on test here. This is capable of 33 miles on pure electric driving. These include a new plug-in hybrid option, the P400e. The 2021 line-up brings with it a selection of new engines. There are multiple drivers modes for different terrains, adjustable ride heights for optimal ground clearance and even 360-degree cameras to give you full visibility around your Velar, so when off-road they can save you from getting into any sticky situations that could scratch that lovely paintwork! There is an authenticity to the way it drives and it certainly stands on its own two feet in this segment of SUVs. While it might not have the low-ratio gearbox and decoupling anti-roll bars you’ll find on things like the Range Rover Sport, the Velar is still plenty capable when off the beaten track. Nothing feels cheap and it’s evident that Range Rover wanted the inside to feel as special as the exterior looks. Everything is leather, glass, metal or high gloss piano black plastics. It’s a prime example of how style and functionality can work in perfect harmony. Step inside and this luxury refinement continues. Park it next to the Evoque and you can see how the design for the Velar has matured and given a new “sporty” edge. There are some small details like the fake vents in the bonnet and under the wing mirrors that add to the overall style. The front is meticulously smooth and the sides, with the retracting door handles, give the car a sleek expensive appearance. There is a distinct lack of step lines all over the car. There is no off-road ruggedness, instead, there is a fast silhouette that is identified by that sloping roofline and rising beltline. It’s a sporty looking SUV, almost slippery in its design. To look at, the Velar looks low, long, less upright. With it being a Range Rover, it’s more than a styling accessory, it has bags more off-road capabilities than its appearance lets on. The result is an SUV that on first impressions, gives a real wow factor. It fills the gap between the smaller Range Rover Evoque and the more premium Range Rover Sport. The Range Rover Velar is one of Land Rovers most stylish cars. Land Rover 2nd July 2021 Jack wrote: Range Rover Velar | What's New For 2021? Introducing: The Range Rover Velar
